Be supportive
Teeners crave for independence but we all know they’re too young for that. Despite their clamor to decide for themselves and “do-it-alone” attitude, they need your guidance, particularly in their choice of diet – that’s if they even tell you that they’re on some kind of diet.

So if you want to help, show them your support. Be their friend and confidante. this will at least keep you updated on their activities even if you don’t agree to most of them. More importantly, you can guide them to make the right choices if you know what’s going on.

Emphasize more than looks
Those who lack self esteem are prone to obsession with their appearance. Make it clear to them that there are more things in life than looks: good grades, achievements in sports, the arts and music. It’s who they are that counts rather than how they look.

Be a good example
Well it’s true – kids emulate their parents. How can you convince your kids about the value of correct dieting if they see you trying to survive on crackers just to shed a few pounds?
